The wind farm is located about 5 km east-north-east of the residential area of San Giorgio la Molara, on the ample ridge of Montagna San Giorgio. It expands pointing south-east, at an average altitude of 900 m above sea level, and includes the areas of Noceverde, Capitano and Piano di Nicola. The area is typical for the Apennine region in the Benevento area (in Campania, southern Italy); the gradual alternation of elevation and valleys makes it easy for the wind to sweep the area, and thus make the wind the most relevant and powerful weather phenomenon, as can be understood by noticing the very sparse presence of trees, most of which tend to be deformed by the wind itself.

The wind farm has been operating since 1999; it consists of 20 triblade wind turbines (unitary capacity: 0.5 MW), adding up to a total installed capacity of 10 MW.

DETAILS

The energy produced by each wind turbine is collected at Medium Voltage (30 kV), by means of an underground cable network. An underground duct connects the MV/LV cabins, and then goes on to the Electrical Station in Montefalcone, where the energy is transformed and enters the public grid at 150 kV voltage.
