The smart home

More efficient energy management in the home

The smart home uses intelligent devices and objects (appliances, boilers, televisions, cameras, etc.) that can connect with each other and use the data collected to optimise home management and thus offer better services to customers.

This technological trend is already growing steadily, and has now been further fuelled by a new awareness of the value of energy.

Edison brought the first pioneering smart home offerings to the market almost ten years ago, with tools for monitoring and efficient use of energy, the app-controllable smart thermostat and the DIY automation kit.

Edison's portfolio has been further enriched over the years with activities and research in the area of the smart home, with numerous new offerings: Edison CoCo , which exploits artificial intelligence to help customers monitor the energy consumption of household appliances; Edison My Sun, which uses photovoltaics and storage systems to achieve energy autonomy; Edison My Comfort for the energy efficiency of air conditioners and boilers; and Edison PLUG&GO for electric mobility and vehicle recharging systems; all of which involve use of connected devices.

Experimentation in Edison Workshops

The testing and development of these innovative services for the smart home takes place every day in the Domus laboratory at Officine Edison Milano. The laboratory represents the meeting point between the everyday experience of a real user and the scientific analysis of technologies and platforms.

The Domus perfectly reproduces an ordinary domestic environment complete with all the typical household appliances (dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven...), but is additionally equipped with a sophisticated measurement and control system and a cloud development platform.

In addition, Edison has its own cloud platform for communicating with devices (Internet of Things platform), which enables the company to accelerate the development of new use cases: the platform enables the access and usability of IoT device data, facilitating its analysis and the collection of user feedback to measure the quality of applications.

Edison constantly monitors the evolution of technologies developed on the market and pays attention to the views and needs of users with the aim of setting up collaborations and partnerships with the most innovative tech players in the smart home sector: here too, Officine Edison represents the ideal place for this experiential journey.
