Edison launches "Pretty Curious" initiative
Milan, 16 June 2016 – Edison launches Pretty Curious, an initiative to promote scientific subjects among female students and defeat gender stereotypes seeing women as less talented in science and technology. An awareness-raising video will be launched mid-June and will be available to wider audiences on Edison's Youtube channel, and initiatives for secondary school girls will be launched at the beginning of the new school year.
In Italy, only 1 out of every 7 employees in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a woman. Women only account for 15% of employees in ICT, and for a meagre 13% of technical managers, researchers, and employees in development and production.
Edison's “Pretty Curious” initiative intends to stimulate the imagination of young girls and to encourage them to choose scientific subjects and give their valuable contribution in areas that are still heavily masculine in Italy. This project also aims at dispelling the myth of STEM subjects being boring, arid, and unsuitable for women.
