Eco-generation, the energy efficiency project for italian schools by Edison and Legambiente
“Eco-Generation”, a campaign by Edison, the Italian energy group, together with Legambiente, the Italian environmental association, to promote sustainable construction and energy efficiency in the Italian schools took off.
The project started with thermographic survey on energy efficiency in ten pilot schools spread throughout the country with the objective of verifying the presence of thermal anomalies that may affect the efficiency and comfort of buildings.
The analysis carried out between January and February 2010, shows the necessity to intervene on all the structures analyzed to achieve savings in consumption by 50/70% over the current situation. In-school sample, in fact, the dispersion medium heat in institutions analyzed ranges between 250 and 350 kWh/m2a (kilowatt-hours per square meter per year) for an average that is around at 290 kWh/m2 year. In addition to this, classrooms showed a high CO2 concentration, reaching 2800/3000 ppm (parts per million), equivalent to 50/70 kg CO2 per square meter per year, for an average of 60 kg CO2 per square meter per year.
Eco-Generation was born thanks to ten years of collaboration between Edison and Legambiente on the promotion of sustainable development. The project aims to create real environmental safeguards, established by the network of pilot schools, who know how to transfer the skills on energy saving, sustainable building and renewables to all the other schools.
