How the facility works
The facility's overall electric capacity is about 125 MW, co-generating steam supplied to the Solvay Solexis production site.
The electricity produced, net of self-consumption, flows entirely into the GSE[1] grid. The facility stopped operating under the CIP 6/92 scheme[2] in March 2010.
The facility consists of a gas turbine (GT) coupled with an alternator (G1), a heat-recovery steam generator (HRSG) at three pressure levels, a steam turbine (ST) coupled with its alternator (G2), and a water-powered condenser.
Environmental protection and safety
An SME, i.e. a continuous emission monitoring system, is in place to gauge the concentration of NOX, CO and O2 in the fumes. The system can calculate the hourly and daily average concentration levels to allow compliance with the authorized limits.
[1] The acronym GSE stands for Gestore dei Servizi Energetici, i.e. the state-owned company which promotes and supports renewable energy sources in Italy (translator's note, source: GSE website).
[2] The CIP 6/92 scheme was adopted in April 1992 by the Italian Interministerial Price Committee and produced an incentive mechanism for energy produced from renewables (translator's note).
